Audubon Charter School Reviews

I have two children in the french immersion program. After Katrina and private schooling, we returned home to Audubon and I have been extremely pleased! I cannot say enough about the partnership between the administration, teachers and parents. My children are extremely happy and I feel as though I'm in a private school setting within the city.

Audubon is a really great school. My son's teacher really cares about her students and the school makes the parents feel welcome. The only negative I have about the school is that they don't really make it easy for younger siblings to enroll in the school at all.

Audubon is a wonderful school. I have a 5th and 2nd grader at Audubon. I am always amazed at how much they are growing academically, as well as socially. I highly recommend Audubon to parents seeking an elementary and/or middle school for their children. The principal is always exploring ways to make Audubon an even better school and I believe that the teachers are some of the best in New Orleans. Audubon is truly a jewel.

This is an awesome school! I have had children in the school for four years; this is our fifth. My children attend the French Immersion section of the school and they are learning to read, write and think in French. The school scored first in the parish on the LEAP test in reading and close to the top in the parish in Math. The principal is wonderful and knows each family personally. She is extremely approachable and has a wonderful, positive attitude that she shares with the students daily. The faculty is very stable and the afterschool program, Arts Reach, offers the opportunity for busy working parents to give their children the extracurriculars they might not otherwise be able to manage. Examples are dance, art, karate, chess and sports. I highly recommend this school!

Audubon is such a great school. Yet it is not the kind of school that provides support for students who are not on grade level. There are many claims of helps that will be provided and I have yet to see any of them executed. I am torn between allowing my child to repeat or finding another school. As known, there are not many high quality schools in New Orleans now. I am so sad that it had to be my child that had trouble this year. I love the school but I don't feel my child has gotten all that was needed in order to make sure that he did not get to this point.

My child is in third grade at Audubon and I wanted to write to address an earlier parent comment (June 2005) about kids with special needs. Since Katrina, I have found Audubon to be 100% responsive to my child's special needs--which was not the case necessarily before. I am very impressed by the progress the school has made in this area as well as in many others since becoming a charter school. This is a diverse, warm, academically excellent, thriving school which fills a very tall order in New Orleans, particularly these days.

The Best of the Best! Audubon is little jewel that sits by the river. We are one happy family. We now have the opportunity to expand to another building which will only continue to help us thrive. The principal is great, the children love the school and the teachers. Quality at it's best!

Audubon Charter should not be judged by its previous incarnation as Audubon Montessori/L'Ecole Franco-Americaine. The new principal has brought a renewed sense of purpose to students, teachers, and parents. Her pride and enthuiasm for the entire school community has brought wonderful changes to the school. Teachers seem happier and more excited about what they do, and this is communicated to kids and parents. With the principal's leadership, the teachers' renewed committment and enthusiasm, and the superb parent, PTO, and charter board support, great things lie ahead for this teriffic little school. It's been exciting to see the changes in the past few months since reopening after Katrina.

I have a kindergartner and a third-grader attending Audubon Charter School for the first time post Hurricane Katrinia. They love it! I had some uncertainty about the montessori academic program, but after reviewing my children's school work, I feel very lucky and proud to be a part of this great school/family! The principal is new, but she's impressive and appears to want only the best for her students. With the right combination of nuturing, discipline, academics, and family involvement, every child could be successful. Working together, failure is not an option.

Our K-3 experience was great, but after a learning disability was discovered, trouble began. I contacted the principle MANY times but she never personally responded or met with me. The teachers would decide which type of help, if any, would be given to the child. If your child has a learning disability, expect no help from the principal or the teachers in the 4th grade. You must allow your child to fall behind TWo grades before they can help.

Audubon Montessori is the best school in the city.I have an 18 year old who went to Audubon from k thru 8th grade and did very well in high school and is doing great in college.I have a 12 year old attending Aududon now doing well. The school is like one big family, with parent volenteers loving the school so much as to give time to their childs school and to other children of New Orleans.I have been a parent and family member of the school for 14 years and can't say enough about this wonderful school.

First, you must understand that Audubon is 2 schools in 1. L'Ecole Franco-Americaine is not just another immersion program. It is a french school with french citizens teaching just as they would back home. I have had my children in the Montessori School for a total of 7 years. The Pre-K through 1st grades are marvelous Montessori learning environments. Grades 2-6 have not been as Montessori as we would like but more of the teachers are becoming Montessori certified so we have great hopes! I have no experience yet with grades 7 & 8 but right now there is just 1 class for each grade level. We need another building for the Middle School to grow. We have dance, drama, art, concert band, P.E., and lots of after school classes available. Our PTO is very active and raises lots of money, primarily to be sure our teachers have assistants. Love it!

I have an incoming Kindergartner at Audubon Montessori. We are very happy with her teacher and with the diversity and learning approaches Audubon Offers. It is exciting that the school shares space with L'ecole Franco American another spectacular program! Audubon has a great small school feel!

I have had a child at Audubon for two years now. She has had a wonderful nurturing experience from k through first grade. I do not know about the upper grades but elementary classes have been superb! The Audubon has very good parent participation and the teachers are just the best. The arts reach program has been a very successful and exciting one, with artists and instructors from all over city participating. I love Audubon Montessori. Also, speaking from a very aesthetic point of view, it is one of the most beautiful schools in the city. Audubon has a very diverse multicultural student body that truly reflects New Orleans residents.

It's the best school in the city.
