Isidore Newman School Reviews

Academically, this is a great school. The majority of the students are very intelligent, and are interested in getting a good education, and most of the teachers are top-notch as well. The athletic and instrumental programs are also very strong. However, this school is the most elitist, snobby schools I have ever attended. Because I do not come from the same wealthy background as the other students, my siblings and I were often excluded and shunned by the numerous cliques of snobby, spoiled children. We have since moved to another state (due to Hurricane Katrina), and we are all much happier and content at public school. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this institution to anyone but children from rich families with social connections.

You're correct in that Newman is no longer the school it was before Katrina. It's more open, more focused, and stronger than it has been in the 14 years my children have been there. With administrators from some of the nation's best schools (Choate, Lawrenceville, Pace) and a Head of School from the top-ranked Cherry Hill School District, the future of Newman is brighter than ever. There's an energy and an excitement that wasn't there before. The children are stimulated and cutting-edge ideas are being implemented in the classroom. You are right - Newman and New Orleans are not the same as they were before Katrina.

I agree that Newman is no longer the best. I had 2 children (one high school, one middel)at Newman and moved one after Katrina because of an elitist mentality and a lack of communication on the part of the faculty. I am close to moving the other child, there are many weak links at Newman today. It pays to look at other schools in the area.

Keep a close eye on Newman over the course of the next several months- their achievements are stronger than ever attracting administration and faculty from top tier educational institutions around the country.

Newman is no longer the school that is was before Katrina. As a well educated parent familiar with other private schools, I can tell you that Newman is hanging on its prior achievements. We removed our child based on extreme unhappiness and the ambivalent attitude of those in charge. Be very careful in selecting this school - look around first!

Exceptionally high quality education specifically focused on language and math. Teaches how to build a strong work ethic and prepare for college. Challenges students to excel in all academic areas. Excellent athletic program.

Isidore Newman School is very professional with a large variety of student activities that allow the children to discover different ideas and to explore the way these ideas work. While the school is very strict on the appropriate rules that they have set, the students are still allowed to make some of there own decisions like they will have to do eventually as they branch out on their own. The children can choose many of their own classes and can even choose to complete some courses during the summer in order to have more free time to catch up on the more diffucult classes during the year. Newman has very high expectations of its students and those who are eligable to go to the school are almost guaranteed a successful life there after.

I believe Newman is the best school anyone of any race, religion, or background can go to. It has an amazing array of extra-curriculars, from the Culture Club to the nationally recongnized dabate team to Summerbridge to anything any could possibly be interested in. The sports teams are excellent, including many state champ. teams. Of course, Newman is one of the best college prep schools in the country. Everyone goes to college, many to ivy leage and other prestigous schools. The teachers all really care about what they are doing and the Newman Parent's Association is always looking for volunteers and stays very involved with the school.
