St. John Lutheran School Reviews

I was a teacher at St. John until I had to relocate due to Hurricane Katrina. I loved working at St. John and have many fond memories and experiences. The teachers there were and still are dedicated to the school and the families they serve. This school is the perfect place for your child to receive a loving, Christ-centered, quality education by caring and well-qualified professionals. The Principal and Kindergarten teachers are both close personal friends of mine and have given unyieldingly of their time, energy, and money to help rebuild St. John. They have done an incredible job and St. John is blessed to have them there. Their faith and witnessing to church and school families shows just how much they care. I treasure my time spent there and know that not only is St. John growing to meet their former glory, but I know it will soon surpass it.

I attended St. John Lutheran School from Kindergarten until the middle of sixth grade, when my family decided to move. All of my years spent here were happy ones. I had many great teachers, who prepared me academically and mentally for each successive year of my schooling. I felt like I was a part of a family at this school, and was accepted not only by teachers and administration, but also my peers. I was able to make and sustain some strong, lasting friendships from my years spent at St. John. The faith-based environment that is promoted at this school creates a wonderful learning environment that inspired me to grow and to become a teacher myself. St. John Lutheran School is a wonderful place for any child to learn and grown in many aspects of development.

St. John Lutheran School is an amazing school. The teachers and staff are dedicated to helping each student grow academically, spiritually, and socially. The small class sizes allow the teacher to individualize classroom education. As a former teacher of St. John, I would recommend this school to anyone. I recently needed to relocate, but I am blessed to have taught at St. John.

My involvement with St. John Lutheran School began in 1986 when my first child started Kindergarten there. Since then, and up until Katrina, I was a part of the St. John family. And a family it is. If you want your precious little ones in a safe, caring, nurturing, Christian environment, St. John is the place for you. Just as importantly, the teachers have years of experience and are committed to working with each and every child to ensure his/her success. The principal has shown untiring dedication and leadership through the aftermath of Katarina and beyond. I have two children who went to St. John-one is now a junior at UNO majoring in Biology, and one just graduated from Rummel. This school is a gem tucked away in Mid-City. If you work in town, or live nearby, don't pass it by!

St. John Lutheran School was a wonderful place for my children. They both went there from Kindergarten on up to 8th grade and had a great experience. They had sports teams that taught them how to be good winners and good losers. They were able to participate in many other activities but always put their academics first. They were very successful in high school and now in college. I miss St. John and the small family feeling. The teachers and administration were there whenever I needed their advice and support. My children grew academically, physically and spiritually. I will always be grateful to St. John for all they did for my children - and for me. I pray God continues to bless this school until it is once again a PreK to 8th grade school that provides Mid-City with the kind of Christian education families need and are looking for.

I am an alumnus of St. John Lutheran School, and I started there in K. I loved St. John mostly because of the small classes. Everyone knew everyone, no matter which grade you were in. I was even friends with Pre-schoolers when I was in 8th grade. Everyone was connected and it had a very 'homey' feel to it. The teachers were always great and demanded the most from every student. I was also involved with all of the extracurriculars St. John had. I ended up going to Jesuit High School where I graduated with an accumulated 3.8 GPA, and had participated in multiple extracurriculars. I have no doubt that St. John is the reason I was so well prepared, and well trained to succeed in school. Even though Katrina devastated the school, after their reconstruction it looks even better than it did when I went there. Makes me jealous. Ha.

Both my children graduated from St. John before Hurricane Katrina. Our years there were wonderful. The academic program is excellent, giving them a strong foundation for high school.Teachers were dedicated and hard working and parents were very involved and supportive.Extracurricular activities were cooperative activities between students/staff/parents. This is a wonderful school that truly is the 'village' helping to raise our children.

We loved St. John Lutheran. The only reason we areno longer there is because of Hurricane Katrina. We had planned to be there until 8th grade. My daughter had been in this school since PK. The academics were excellent and all of the teachers were committed to delivering a high level of education. The parents were very, very involved in the PTL. They did many great things for the school. There was always some activity available for the students to be involved in during the school year. We would be back if the hurricane had not come to this area.

St. John Lutheran School in New Orleans, Louisiana is the best school I have ever come into contact with. My son attended St. John Lutheran from Kindergarten through the very beginning of 3rd grade, when Hurricane Katrina flooded the school and forced its closing. They've since re-opened, but only with the primary grades, so I had to send my son to another school. But he would not be going to the school he is attending right now if St. John Lutheran didn't suffer its fate and was able to fully re-open to all grades. I still live in the same neighborhood, and every time I pass by St. John Lutheran, all I can say to myself is 'I want my school back!' I wish with all my heart and soul that my son was still able to attend there. From day one, as parents sending their young child off to 'big school' for the first time, we were met by the staff of St. John Lutheran with warmth, kindness, understanding, and welcoming arms and hearts. The faculty of St. John Lutheran and the families associated with it are some of the most amazing people we have ever met and have had the privilege to work with. Our son received the utmost in Christian and academic training at St. John and, along with his parents, became part of a much larger entity: a true family that nurtured, guided, taught, loved, and inspired every single day. I cannot say enough about what a fabulous educational and Christian organization St. John Lutheran is. I pray for them every day in their efforts to re-establish their place in Mid-City New Orleans as a beacon of hope to the community and its children. If I could send my son back to school there tomorrow, I would without a moment's hesitation. St. John Lutheran is quality, Christian-based education but, more importantly, a loving, caring family-oriented place that is a true blessing to all who are associated with it.

My name is brenda bushong... In 18 years at St.John my children and i had a wonderful experience, it was, and it is a wonderful school, i have 4 children, one just graduated from lsu and the other one will be graduating in 2 years they were in st john from pk to 8th grade, and not only it is a great christian school but acadamicaly as well, if it wasn't for katrina my young children would be there too, they both were there till 8-26-05, and they miss their school and teachers very much,if it is a oportunity to go back, my children will go back to St john, with out any doubt, St John was a blessing to us!

I strongly encourage checking the sources of these ratings before reading them. I personally know BBushong and know that her dedication and love for St. John Lutheran is beyond that of any other. She now lives in a different state because of Huricane Katrina and misses St. John more than ever. MGalley

I went to school at St. John all of my life. Every year I was blessed with a great teacher. My entire family went to St. John and I have many life long friends that I have made from being so involved. It provided the foundation for a great future. A future that started at St. John.

this is a great school. the classes are small so the students are taught very well. all of our teachers are certified. there are computer classes, and seversl kinds of sports includibg volleyball, soccer, basketball, cheerleading and track. the PTL is involved with all of the activities of the school and the day schoolboard is also.
