Bissonet Plaza Elementary School Reviews

This school has one of the best PTO groups I've ever seen. Everyone is involved and they have activity's after school like movie night which is a good way to have family's meet and get to know each other. The only thing I don't like about this school is the student teacher ratio. I think our children would do better if our teacher's got the pay raise they deserve and had less students in a classroom.

My children have been at Bissonet for going on 7 years and I think it is a great school. There is something to be said when the administration knows all 600+ children, like they are 60! I love Bissonet and could never think of being anywhere else. Their PTO is active without being clickish.

Both of my kids attended Bissonet Plaza and this is our last year as my youngest son is in 5th grade. We have been apart of Bissonet for the last 11 years and wouldnt change a thing. My oldest son is now a Sophmore at Rummel and doing well. Bissonet prepared him well for higher education as he has been on the honor roll since 2nd grade. My youngest son is following in his footsteps as he prepares to enter middle school. Bissonet is a great school, the teachers have done a wonderful job with my sons.

One of my children attended Bissonet from 1st through 5th grades. I was very pleased with the G-T program, and the amount of attention he received. He went on to honors programs in middle and high school, becoming a National Merit Finalist. I believe that he received a great foundation at Bissonet, and am sorry that we had to move before my younger son had the same opportunities.

Appears to be a good school but is not structured to handle a child who is suffering in any one or a number of subjects. I say this because testing is not done timely and follow-up lacks greatly. Being a watchdog vs. being able to rely upon our educators and school office staff, i.e., principal, asst. principal, etc. to follow-up timely and proficiently is very frustrating. It is frustrating for the parent who is trying to obtain help for the child and the child suffers even more as the year progresses and help is not at hand. It is my observation that it is not just this particular school but the Jefferson Parish School system as a whole which is shocking since I've always been told how poorly the New Orleans school kids score comparatively when tested and compared with Jeff. Parish. The root of the problem may be the School Board has not beenn able to hire enough qualified individuals to keep their finger on the pulse of the suffering and special needs kids. If you wait until mid or end of the year to evaluate a child that has already failed the previous year, something is terribly wrong with the system. I am speaking from a personal experience with this school as well as another Elementary School.
