Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies Reviews

I attend Haynes and its an incredible place. I recommend going there if you need a challengew or want to have fun when learning.

I attend haynes. i'm in 8th grade there. its fun, challenging, and a great school.i love the school!

I'm currently a freshman and love it! Although there are many projects and a large amount of homework, I still enjoy my learning experience and the friends I have made there. The teachers are really nice and everyone seesm to know everybody. The extracurricular activities are growing. It'll eventualy grow tio be even better thn it is now!

I am a student and i have been attending the school for 3 years now. Honestly being a student I do not think the school is that great. Yes we may be advanced but are we really learing anything when everything is crammed in our heads over a short period of time. I made all A's and my grades have dropped to C's. I do not plan on attending this school next year because i cannot afford the low grades. And yes the school may be 'diverse' but many students make rude comments about other races and that displeases me.Most of the staff are just rude at times. Many parents dont see this because they do not attend the school. The work is also too much(3-5 hours homework for me usually). And By the way, I never opened an English book EVER in school in seveth grade.

My daughter is an 9th grader and she adores this school. Unlike previous entries, her homework is not time-consuming. She does about an hour each night. However, this school is not for every child - it's for high-achieving students that thrive on the extra projects, and those that can grasp concepts real fast, therefore, eliminating long hours of homework. My daughter is involved in clubs, sports, and does volunteer work - so she is having a typical childhood/high school experience. In my opinion, it's a great school and fits her abilities just perfectly!

I wrote a review on this school when my daughter first started here in sixth grade. I still believe that this is a wonderful school however the amount of homework and projects at home are way over the top. She comes home from school and starts her homework at 4PM and doesn't stop until 9PM. Her only break is for dinner. I think some homework is important to reinforce what is taught in school but this is excessive. The extra projects are not teaching her anything and are taking away time when she could be studying her lessons. I have thought about taking her out of this school for this reason but she begs me not to. Anyone who makes the decision to send their child to this school should know that their childs life will be all work and very little play.

I'm Charles, and I've been here since sixth grade and am currently in 9th grade. There is no school better than Haynes. Great education, safe environment, awesome teachers, great extra curricular activities is something you can find at Haynes and nowhere else. The big Yellow Jacket family is sure to achieve great things in life. Everybody at Haynes is sure to make a difference in the world somehow. So parents looking for schools for your middle to 10th grade, 11th next year, and 12th after that, Haynes is the DEAL! Looking forward to see you there! Charles R. 9th grader

Haynes Academy is a great school with very high epectations. I, being in eighth grade, have enjoyed this school ever since 6th (when it first opened as a Magnet school). I love how everyone is a huge family and no one is bullied. It is a very safe environment where everyone is welcomed. This is my first year that I am not liking it because sometimes, the younger grades become a little annoying. But, hopefully, everything will work out for the best. This school is AWESOME!

haynes is an awesome school. It is in an extremely safe environment where you can always be youself. Everyone there is caring and nurturing towards each other. There is so much to learn and not only from the teachers. Among the students, there are many different races and nationalities. So far, I have never seen any bullies in the school or any one being bullied. In sports we are not the best, but we are working on it and we are having a lot of fun. The education is awesome and so are the teachers. Parents, there is no worry about your child ever not graduating at haynes. You have to maintain a 2.0 average, no Ds or Fs are acceptable. You will have one nine week to pull it up, and tutoring will be provivded. There is sooo much to be apart of and u are sure to have fun.

Look no further! Haynes Academy is the top notch school in the New Orleans area. The principal and teachers are committed to providing the individual student an excellent and challenging learning experience. The faculty and staff understand the developmental and educational needs of the academically advanced adolescent. The music and art programs are awesome. Sports and other extracurricular activities are limited, and should be (in my opinion) at the accelerated school. The beautiful campus is located in the Old Metairie neighborhood and is convenient to parents who work in the city. Haynes is a fine school that is a key factor in attracting and keeping citizens in the revitalized New Orleans area.

this is one of THE BEST schools I have ever been to. I am a student at haynes currently, and I LOVE it. the teachers are AWESOME and so is the principal!!!! you get a excellent education and it is sooo diverse.

I do not like this school very much. The teachers are mean and cruel at times. There is so much homework for my child. Now i understand that the school expects more from the students. Yet,it will me great if there will be more classwork than homework. It will be great if the 7th grade can have a field once in a while since all I heard is that the 6th graders always go on a field trip than any other grade. Which is kindly unfair. Therefore, please reconsider and make a few changes. My son used to enjoy school yet now he hates it.

The LEAP scores represented on this site do not reflect the new magnet status of this school (starting with 05/06). All 6th and 7th graders had to qualify for admission, so the eighth grade LEAP scores will be significantly higher in the 07/08 school year. The school is 6th-9th grade now and will add a grade each year until it is a grade 6-12 school. So far we have been very happy with the school (our son started August 06). The teachers are well qualified, friendly and enthusiastic. It feels like a place that you would want to spend your day. The principal and asst. principal are accessible and involved. We feel that Haynes compares favorably with local private schools our son has attended.

My husband and I have been very pleased with the Honors program at Haynes. Our children have recieved a quality education as well as the enrichment activities that gifted children need. The band program and the talent theater program have been a godsend for my children and others like them who crave creative outlets. However, I do wish that Haynes had a real choir. My daughter enjoys singing choral music, but there are no choirs in the area for middle-schoolers whose parents can not afford J.P.A.S..
