Grace King High School Reviews

It is my opinion that Grace King is the best Public High School around. The administration is top quality and provide a very safe environment for my son. We transferred from a private school (which my daughter still attends) my son was not happy there and has flourished at King. Both his father and I are of Grace Kings first Co-Ed graduating class.

Well i have to say grace king is a good school but ans this is a big but the discpline is bad at this school what i mean by this is the admistion cares more about your uniforms then the kids learning i should know i gradued from this school

I graduated Grace King in 2004 and was very active in my school as I participated in yearbook, leadership, executive board, wrestling, drama, and art throughout my time at GK. I now attend LSU and feel that I was well prepared for college. There are great teachers and the students were wonderful. The only problems I had with Grace King come from the administration and the mission statement of the school. Counselors don't prepare students for college nor do they counsel. There uniform policy does not cohere to there mission statement. I suggest reading both before enrolling your child. GK mission statement: 'The Mission of our school community is to foster democratic values, to prepare students for everyday life, and to promote an intellectual, moral, social, safe, nurturing environment which is conducive to educational success for all students.'

My daughter is a freshman in honor/gifted classes, and from what i know of the other public high schools in Jefferson Parish, Grace King is the best in the parish.

Grace king is the best public high school in the region. If you can't afford a private school Grace king would be your best bet. Its a great acadamic school. Grace king has won won the national competition for 'we the people' for the last two years. Its also a good school for athletes. In 2007 Jake Hadley broke the state record in the 300meter hurdles and was the state champion in the 300eter hurdles. Grace king Rocks

Most of the teachers do not go out of their way to help the students. The teachers forget that they are supposed to be there for the children. All children can learn -some just need to be taught in a different way. I was told that my child gets ignored because the teacher was too busy with the aggressive kids.

I graduated in 2006. This is the best school in High School in Jefferson Parish. We win everything from newspaper competitons to we the people. I guarantee your child will succeed if you send them to Grace King.

I must say that Grace King is one of the most outstanding schools in our area. The teachers are wonderful and the staff is supporting and willing to help in time of need. The students get along wonderfully and the school is a fun and a safe place to go to school.

I was a sophmore at GK before the hurricane and I am so sad that I won't be going back probably until my senior year. school just started on August 22th and I was so excited to be back. I was going to join clubs and I was looking forward to being a cheerleader. But the scools quality was excellent. There were great, dedicated teachers and the disciplinarians were not a joke. They made sure that the rules at this school were followed. We had great academic programs and we had a wonderful baseball team. Whenever Grace King is back up and running I'll be the first student back.

I am a senior at gk this year, and i absolutly love it. the teachers are awesome and are very involved. the only thing i do not like is the way they handle our shirt not being tucked in and our earings being too long or larger than a quarter .

I attend Grace King and i believe that the class selection is limited but the majority of the teachers are top notch. The discipline issue is ridiculous. I myself have been punished, i was made to miss classes, for an un-tucked shirt or the wrong color socks.

Grace King is actually a pretty great school considering the district that we're in. Its flawed in its discipline system; such as giving a suspension for an un-tucked shirt, that is unheard of but its an extremely safe and cozy environment where your teachers know you personally.

Grace King is a pretty good school, however, the rules over sock color and how many bracelets you can wear on your arm are ridiculous. The extracurricular activities are good and majority of the teachers are fabulous, most are very helpful and caring of student's needs, but there are a select few that don't seem to be that way. Also, administrators seem to care more about discipline rather than education. To sit in the discipline office for 2 class periods for the wrong color shoelaces is pathetic. If you send your child to GK, expect a great education but a terrible discipline record for things such as 'shirt not tucked in, blue socks, three bracelets on one arm, or earrings bigger than a quarter.'

I am an 05 graduate from king. Teachers are for the most part awesome and student friendly. Administration is way overboard. Uniform started off for safety reasons but they took it so overboard that instead of worrying about other things like kids about to fight or guns in school they are too busy walking around looking for violations.

Let there be no doubt that Grace King is the best public high school academically. Discipline wise its okay but the disciplinarians are harassing and hazy. They get you for every little thing. If they find nothing wrong with you they will change the rules and get you in trouble for 'your belt not being tight enough!' I think this matter should be brought to the school board because people's records get smeared over absurd things.

I am a 2004 graduate of Grace King and I would say it is one of the top schools in parish. We even had kids from New Orleans to attend our school, they felt they had a better chance at King. Like most I would say discipline is very overboard, out of control. They look for the color of your shoe laces to the sizes of girls earrings. They are showing self-expression and the only one being to be distracted is them. Education at King is outstanding and all the teacher really care about each and every student. Extracurricular activities are in a struggle right now, the only winning sports I think are volleyball and baseball. the flag team is becoming a dominant force. They need coaches there to get the job done. King is a good choice for your child.

The front office staff is not people-friendly or quality. You hardly ever see anyone smiling. Negative environment turns me away from volunteering/involvement. My two daughters attending, send me tales of coldhearted responses from counselers. Many teachers okay, some amazing, some bad. Excellent extracurricular activities. Discipline for them is horrible, as they say students get stopped on everything and are ignored in their own newspaper. Eldest daughter gives warning that Gk is only in it for the achievement medal.

Grace King is an excellent school. My first son graduated from GK in 2004 and was accepted at the nation's top colleges including a couple of ivy leagues. My second son is currently attending GK and is also doing very well. This was only due to the standard of education that the school provided, the quality of the teachers and their commitment towards the students, and the courses and activities available to the children. As a parent I don t feel GK is wrong in enforcing the rules on uniforms, as this is part of the process to bring discipline into school. I feel that school uniform does not prevent a student from expressing his individualism (as this can be expressed after school and during weekends) but helps children focus on education rather than the daily pressures of what they should wear and what opinion others might draw from their attire.

My son has attended GK for one year and overall it is a decent school that he enjoys but I must agree the concern over shoelace color, etc. is quite overboard. It's sad when an otherwise good student/child is punished for something so trivial.

My daughter will be graduating from GK this upcoming year. It is an excellent school academically but they are too concerned about the exact color of slacks or sweatshirt. Instead of giving detentions for the 'wrong' shade of khaki, the staff ought to be more concerned about the disciplinary aspects. Overall, the teachers are well-qualified and the staff is nice. Grace King is the best public school in this area (Jefferson Parish). I am happy to know GK takes part in the D.E. Program (which my daughter will be doing this year).

Excellent School - Teachers are always available to talk to parents. Good discipline. Lots of extracurricular activities. I have two sons going to school at GK and my wife and I are active volunteers, we get to see a lot of what goes on in the school and we are very pleased.

The administration is too concerned with petty things rather than the students education and safety. The sock, sweat shirt, and shoe lace colors should not be that important, afterall most students go the public school because they financially can not afford a private school.

Grace King is an ok school. The administration should be more concerned with education and less concerned with shoelace color though. Some of the policies there are just stupid but if you can't afford a private school then Grace King is probably the best choice.

I think the school is overall a good school until your child runs into a problem. They act like teachers are not capable of telling a lie and the student doesn't have an honest chance. Once the teacher speaks, his/her word is law.

I am not a parent, but a recent graduate from GK. It is the worst school I have ever attended. If you are serious about your child's education, do not ever send him/her to GK, nor to any public high school around New Orleans except Ben Franklin. Ben Franklin might be the only place that he/she can get something out of. Don't go to GK. It is as bad as you can imagin it to be.

After doing some research I found out that Grace King is one of the best public high schools in the city. I took my daughter out of a Catholic high school and she now attends Grace King, I have no regrets and neither does she. Great teachers and a helpful staff.

Great school, all of my teachers helped me make the best of what I have become now. Because of it's disciplinary system, I felt safe going to King. Attending Grace King High School has probably been the best four years of my life.

I think this school is one of the best public high school. It has a good staff and I believe one of the best principals.
