Destrehan High School Reviews

I am a junior at Destrehan. I think that this school is overrated. The school enviroment is not a healthy one. Football players rule the school. They walk around with their shirts untucked, cell phones highly visibile, they just break all the rules. The average student can not thrive in this enviroment. There is a huge learning gap between the Honors community and the regular ed children. I would not recommend this school for a college bound student because there is no help.

I am an alumni of Destrehan HS, class of 2007, and I transferred my sophomore year from Immaculata HS. I loved going to Destrehan. The school's standards exceeded my expectations. I am very proud to say I graduated from this school.

I'm a junior at Destrehan and I absolutely love it. The teachers have become more than just my mentors, they're my friends and we're one big family. the academics here are almost unmatched, this goes for our sports as well. Our football team is currently 1st in district and undefeated. Our girl's volleyball team is very successful as well. I wouldn't see myself at any other school. This I can say because I transferred from Cabrini.

I recently graduated from Destrehan, and I have to say, it has really prepared me for what I am experiencing right now in college. The teachers will stop at nothing to teach you and help you succeed!

I am a junior at DHS and I have to say it is a very nice school. There are some negative points though. Many children are looked over. If your a student like myself you have to push yourself to get ahead. If you want to go to college then you have to take control. If your a regular students prepare to work hard and avoid peer pressure.

This school is the best educating school you'll find. I am currently a student here, and I love it. The teachers are really concerned about helping you prepare for college! I love it here, and I'd be disappointed if I attended school anywhere else!

Overall DHS has a wonderful academic program; however, because of the stereotyping, many students are discouraged because they dare to be different. The 'random' search has been taken too far. Students are being singled out and given 'in-school' dentention just for having a cell phone...even when it is turned off. Some jewelry, which some staff members find offensive, is considered a 'possible' weapon and students have to remove it; however, precious jocks can be seen carrying their baseball bats and cell phones with no consquences. They seem to be the untouchables. It is really sad that a few who can't get past their prejudices are missing the whole point for their being in the education field. Get to know these talented students. You may be surprised they do have an intelligent contribution. Have you thought what your life would be like if the stereotyping was reversed?

I am a Fellow student of DHS. The School is a great place to recieve an education and be involved with activies. You have teachers who really do care about their students. The sports program is great if you are invovlded in football, basketball, and baseball. They do provided other sports activites like tennis and swimming. Which are not highly recgnized.

My son is a Junior and has taken mostly honors classes. Overall I have been impressed with the quality of the teachers (with some exceptions), the variety of courses available, the discipline, and the general atmosphere and condition of the facilities. I am disappointed with the sports program, due to the fact that football, baseball & basketball all have on-staff coaches, but boys soccer does not. There is a school representative as coach, with an outside trainer hired to do the actual coaching. The trainer is not a teacher or a professional educated to deal with kids and this has proven to be a problem.

St. Charles parish has done an excellent job for the last 5 years working with my son who is a special ed student. They have increased his skills and brought him up to grade level. This year he is graduating and we could not be more proud. Destrehan faculty have been a blessing and pleasure to work with for the last 4 years. We could not ask for a better scholl to educate my son.
